Identity of a King

Our identity shouldn't be what others say it should be or come from what the world says but our identity should only come from God.

When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
— 1 Samuel 16:6-7

Samuel went to go anoint one of Jesse's sons to be king, to take over the throne from Saul but Jesse went with a mindset that to be king or to be anointed to rule you needed to be strong, you needed to be built with muscles, you needed to be the right height but I love what God says to Samuel...

Sometimes the world tells us that we have to act a certain way to be picked or if we don't or if we act in another way that we won't get picked, our identity shouldn't be determined by what the world wants or tells us how to act but our identity needs to be found in Jesus.

So how do we find our identity?

1. SPEND TIME WITH HIM

David spent a lot of time by himself but he wasn't just sleeping or chilling out doing nothing he was either worshiping God, praying to God, writing songs to God or doing something that shaped his identity.

When we spend time with God, His identity is transferred to us and it becomes our identity.

2. SPEAK IT OVER YOURSELF

Romans 12:2
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

If we know that our identity has been shaped by the world we need to transform that and change it to be our identity in Christ and we do this by speaking over ourselves what God says about us.

Ephesians 1:4-5
4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will
Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
1 Peter 2:9
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

There are so many things in the bible that God says about you which will help you define your identity in Him you just need to speak it over yourself!

God called and anointed David, not just because he was faithful or because he was diligent, and those things are great but because Davids identity was in God and because of that he was able to be the King that God called him to be!

Much Love
